How To Design The Perfect Garden

If you are interested in gardening, you have probably researched all you can about vegetable gardening, different flower varieties, watering techniques etc. However, there is one thing that most gardeners often overlook. Designing your garden is one of the most crucial steps in creating a space perfect for you. We have compiled a list of landscaping tips which will help you to find out how to design the perfect garden.

Tip One

The same ideas and principles that are used in setting up your room can also be used in designing a garden. First of all, you need to make a list of needs and wants and ask yourself some basic questions.

Will your kids play in the garden? Do you need to grow vegetables? Will your family gather in the space over steaming cups of tea?

Keeping all these questions in mind, draw a rough sketch of your garden and plan out where you want everything to go. This is a great organizing principle.

Tip Two

It is of essential importance to study the sun and wind patterns. You may want to have a seating arrangement in a space where the sun may get too bright during dinner time. The wind whistling around a corner may extinguish the fire pit. These little problems can be nerve wracking at times so it is better to keep an eye on the sun and wind patterns.

Tip Three

Live with your original design for some time. It often happens that we can make wrong decisions at the start which may be expensive to rectify later so it is good to think things through before starting work on your garden.

Tip Four

Television shows reveal complete garden makeovers in a few days. However, this is far from the truth. These shows have crews of over a sixty people and the beginner gardener cannot replicate the results. The entire purpose of landscaping is to develop a plan slowly and actually enjoy the results. Start with a small flower bed and go out and work on it for an hour or two. See how things look and enjoy your time out in nature.

Tip Five

Plan your garden around a focal point. This may be a beautiful sculpture or an enchanting tree. The objective is to draw the eye of the viewer.

Tip Six

Focus on scale and pacing. This is the trickiest idea in this list but one of essential significance. There will be variations of size, shape and color all around your garden and it may be necessary to repeat or add some new elements to add a sense of cohesion to your garden.

Tip Seven

Be open to change. Your ideas and tastes will probably change over time. If you feel as if you don’t like a particular flower anymore, then it is perfectly acceptable to add some new elements. In fact, gardens are something which are continually evolving and changing.

Happy Gardening!
